West Brampton’s Top Choice for Music Lessons

For over 86 years, the Ontario Conservatory of Music (OCOM) has been a leader in innovative music education, setting the standard for excellence across Ontario. Of those 86 years, 61 have been dedicated to serving the Brampton area.

In 1954, we opened one of our flagship locations at George and Queen Street, right in Brampton’s historic downtown. If you grew up here and took music lessons, there’s a good chance you learned with us!

What Can You Expect With A High-Quality Program With Our School?

What sets us apart from most other schools and music stores offering lessons is that our instructors are not independent contractors.

All of our teachers are employees of the Ontario Conservatory (OCOM), holding university degrees in music education. All levels of Theory are taught following the Royal Conservatory Program Syllabus. As a premier Brampton music school, Our teachers are trained to provide the high-quality instruction you expect, while also building lasting relationships with your child to ensure they stay engaged and motivated.

There are many teachers that have attempted to join our team but through our evaluation have learned that in many cases there was no formal training for the applicant. It is very important when choosing a school to know who you are entrusting with your family’s musical education!

Our Brampton West Academic Coordinator, Ira Bolka:

At OCOM, our students follow our certified syllabus and are thoroughly prepared for annual exams.

Ira holds a university degree from the prestigious Academy of Music located in Zagreb, Croatia. After completing her studies and becoming an accomplished musician Ira became a piano teacher and taught many talented students through various teaching positions.

In the 1980’s Ira was a piano teacher in Zagreb Croatia and after arriving in Canada accepted a position as the Senior Piano Teacher for the Toronto Conservatory of Music in Etobicoke. Ira went on to join the Toronto school system as a music teacher and taught in the Intermediate Senior Division. Ira was the music teacher for Senior Kindergarten, grade 5 and for grades 9 – 11 at the Cedar Grove Private School. This position led to becoming the Music Teacher for all levels SK through to grade 8 at Sherwood Heights School. In 2009 Ira also accepted a position as a Special Education Teacher at the prestigious University of Toronto!

Since 2009 Ira has been the Music Director and organist at her church and after leaving the Toronto Public School system joined Ontario Conservatory of Music where she professionally teaches beginners all the way to grade 10, and beyond. Through the countless students Ira has taught with our organization she has also prepared students for the University level.

Ira is also a Senior Examiner for students throughout our GTA campuses, in this role Ira can ensure that students in all campuses are studying correctly.

The Royal Conservatory Program Syllabus

At the Ontario Conservatory of Music, students follow our certified syllabus and are thoroughly prepared for annual exams.

When our students reach grade five, which is the beginning of the RCM syllabus, our students are developed and prepare for the annual RCM exam.

By receiving this high-quality program with our school your child can obtain two high school credits, which is RCM piano level seven, and eight while also completing levels nine, and ten which would qualify your child to one day teach students of their own!

While we are proud to teach some of the highest-achieving students in the Peel Region, we also provide a pathway for students aiming for university-level music education.

We offer a comprehensive program for students of every age and skill level, featuring a variety of courses on solo, band, and orchestral instruments in a range of styles and genres.  With the expertise of our skilled instructors, you’ll receive tailored guidance to achieve your dreams.
