Special Need Program Overview

At the Ontario Conservatory of Music, we believe in the transformative power of music for all individuals, including those with special needs. Our Special Needs Program is designed to provide tailored music education and support for children and individuals with diverse abilities, ensuring an inclusive and enriching musical experience.

Program Requirements:

There are only two items required for those children that are Special Needs.

The guardian of the child confirms that the child is verbal, which means they have the ability to communicate with an instructor and is able to learn in an educational environment and interact one-on-one with a tutor without parental supervision.

We provide the services of a professional Music Counsellor that will meet with your family, and if possible provide our Music al Aptitude Assessment on the child. This evaluation determines the prospective students Coordination, Ear, Interest and Rhythm for music at this stage.

When the evaluation is complete we work in concert with the Academic Coordinator in your nearest campus to discuss the best program and level to start the student in.

We tailor a program around the students learning ability ensuring there is no undue stress on the program speed. Our focus is on the student learning and having fun while providing an outlet to improve on various areas of coordination, concentration, social interaction and simply the joy of making music!

Our Approach

Special Needs Program

Personalized Lesson Plans: Our instructors take the time to understand each student’s abilities, learning preferences, and specific needs. They then design lesson plans tailored to address these individual factors.

Adaptable Teaching Methods:  Our teachers adapt their teaching methods. This might involve using visual aids, incorporating more auditory cues, or adjusting the pace of instruction to suit the student’s learning style.

Supportive Community: We foster an environment where students feel supported not only by the instructors but also by their peers. Collaborative activities encourage teamwork and social interaction.

Peer and Educator Engagement: Students are encouraged to engage with their peers and educators, creating an atmosphere where questions are welcomed, and learning becomes a collective effort. This collaborative approach helps students build confidence and develop social skills alongside their musical education.

This comprehensive approach aims to create a holistic and supportive learning environment where each student feels valued, understood, and empowered to explore the world of music according to their unique abilities and needs.

Our Teaching Method

We employ a great group of teaching professionals that are dedicated to teaching musical instruments in a fun and educational manner.

Teachers of all types need to develop an interest in the student for the particular topic. With music lessons it is all about the relationship between the teacher and the student. Learning to play an instrument is an integral part of every child’s development and the instructor is the key.  Our teachers represent the pinnacle of expertise in music education. Each member of our faculty brings a wealth of experience and qualifications to the table, ensuring that students receive instruction from the best in the industry.

The focus on our Special Needs program is to deliver a program that provides an outlet for the child to enjoy learning an instrument and experiencing the excitement of creating music!
