The Ontario Conservatory of Music (OCOM) has been a cornerstone of music education, setting the standard for top-quality teaching across Ontario for over 86 years. Since opening our first Toronto location in 1939, we have continually evolved alongside the community of Downsview.
In 1954, we opened one of our flagship locations at George and Queen Street,right in the heart of Brampton’s historic downtown. If you grew up in this area and took lessons, chances are, you learned with us!
What Can You Expect With A High-Quality Program With Our School?
Unlike most other schools and retail stores offering lessons, our staff are not independent contractors!
All teaching staff are employees of OCOM. Our teachers hold university degrees in music education and are required to teach all levels of Theory following the Royal Conservatory Program Syllabus. As part of our team, our teachers are specifically trained to deliver the high-quality program you expect from the Ontario Conservatory, while building a lasting relationship with your child to keep them engaged in their learning.
Many teachers have applied to join our team, but through our thorough evaluation process, we’ve found that in many cases, applicants lacked formal training. It is very important when choosing a school to know who you are entrusting with your family’s musical education!
The Royal Conservatory Program Syllabus
By studying at OCOM, you’ll follow our certified syllabus and receive preparation for yearly exams. When students progress to Grade 5, the RCM syllabus begins, and they prepare for the annual RCM exams.
By receiving this high-quality program with our school your child can obtain two high school credits, which is RCM piano level seven, and eight while also completing levels nine, and ten which would qualify your child to one day teach students of their own!
We are proud to work with many of the Halton Region’s highest-achieving students, and we also provide a clear path for those aiming to reach university-level music performance.

Special Needs Program – Downsview Ontario
We provide our Free Musical Aptitude Test to everyone interested in a program. For our Special Needs Program, the requirements are that the guardian of the child confirms that the child is verbal, has the ability to communicate with an instructor, is able to learn in an educational environment and interact one-on-one with a tutor without parental supervision. As pioneers in the music education field, Ontario Conservatory of Music has introduced what has become the most popular method for learning music today: group instruction. We offer group classes for all ages,—from young children to teens, young adults and older adults. Through group music instruction, people of all ages learn faster, learn by comparison and learn to play in unison.
